PI Anna Lisa Ahlers and Research Assistant Zhaozhe Liang Participate in Events at the University of Oslo
From 15 to 18 September 2026, PI Anna Lisa Ahlers and research assistant Zhaozhe Liang participated in a series of events at the University of Oslo.
On 15 September, Anna Lisa Ahlers moderated the public panel discussion “China’s Global Engagement: Fresh Perspectives on Geopolitics and Cooperation”, featuring Iselin Stensdal (Fridtjof Nansen Institute/Norwegian Centre for Geopolitics), Wendy Leutert (Indiana University, USA), and Laura Trajber Waisbich (Igarapé Institute, Brazil).
The panel explored how China’s global engagement is practised, negotiated, contested, and reshaped on the ground—from development cooperation and relations with the Global South to Belt and Road companies, climate governance, resource commodification, and scientific and technological collaboration. It also considered whether new opportunities are emerging for China to fill gaps, reshape institutions, and redefine global cooperation.
At a related workshop on 17 September, Zhaozhe Liang presented her paper, “Making the Science Silk Road Governable: Administrative Translation in China’s Ministry of Science and Technology.”
